City Stream Watch is ready to start booking stream surveys with volunteers for the month of June!

Stream surveys are scheduled with 2 or 3 volunteers and one staff member from our City Stream Watch crew.  We held our annual training session for stream surveys this past weekend, but if you were unable to attend the session you can still sign up as we can do on the job training with you when you come out for the first time.

It is best to allow at least three hours to participate in stream surveys, which includes meeting at the site, putting equipment on, hiking to the creek, and completing a few surveys.  It’s even better if you can stay with us for the whole day, that way we are able to get much more done!

We make our schedule based on what days and times volunteers are available to come out, and we do our very best to accommodate everyone’s preferences and give everyone the chance to come out at least once or twice during the schedule period.  I apologize in
advance if I can’t accommodate all of your requests!

Please indicate which days you are available to help:

  • June 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21
  • June 23, 24, 25, 26, 27

Please indicate your preferred shift during each day:

  • Available all day (9am to 3pm) – we love it if you can do this!
  • Available in the morning (9am to 12pm)
  • Available in the afternoon (12pm to 3pm)
  • Available in the evening (6pm to dark)

Please indicate your preference from the following list of creeks (maps are attached):

If you would like to participate in stream surveys during the dates listed above, please send me an email with the following information:

  • Date(s) of availability (if you are available for more than one day, let me know how many times you would like to participate)
  • Time of availability
  • Shoe size (so we can bring chest waders for you)
  • Phone number
  • Creek preference if you have one

Once I have everyone’s available dates, available times, and creek preferences I will make the schedule and then email you back with the date(s) and time(s) that I have scheduled you to join us for surveys in June.

As part of our obligations under RVCA’s Health and Safety policy I have attached a list of possible hazards that could be encountered during stream surveys.  The potential hazards specific to each site will be covered on the day of the survey.  Please take a minute to
review the attachment and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Everyone!
