On November 17, 2012 the CCCA held a parks public meeting. Further to this meeting, Councillor Monette was pleased to inform the CCCA that $350,000 will be spent on Park 18-B in 2012 to build the basketball court, volleyball court, to finish grass seeding and the tree planting in this 10 acre park. As you may have noticed the splash pad was finalized last fall and the children of Cardinal Creek are sure to enjoy this blossoming facility in the sizzling days of summer. This summer/fall, we expect to launch a naming contest for this park, the largest in Cardinal Creek, with the assistance of Councillor Monette’s office.
The CCCA has also been working with Councillor Monette to advance the development of Park 18-A. We are hoping to see the development of a full size soccer field start this year in conjunction with Trim Road re-alignment that would advance the development of a much needed soccer field by 5 years. We expect that soccer field would be ready for play in 2014 as opposed to 2019. We would like to publicly thank the Cumberland United Soccer Club for their support in advancing the timing of this soccer field.
The CCCA was pleased to work with Councillor Blais to secure an investment of $175,000 to ensure that Celeste Park becomes a reality in 2012. Celeste Park, located in the Cardinal Creek Community on Celeste Way adjacent to Maple Ridge Elementary School, is a relatively small park geared towards younger children and their families. This park will include swings, a small sliding hill; play structures, links to trails, benches and other amenities. Tree plantings are planned as well as a cedar-rail fence.
The Pine Vista Park in East Village received a new climbing structure in fall 2012 and this now completes construction of this park. Hats off to City Parks and Recreation staff for making this a reality.
The CCCA is planning on launching an online petition and going door to door to obtain your support for the advance of Park 18-A and the construction of a small community building that would have one meeting room and a change room for residents to allow us to change our skates during the winter or change into our tennis/volleyball gear in the warmer months. We plan on requesting support from all levels of government and the private sector to make this happen. Please stay tuned for more information as your support is key.
