The planned 208-hectare mixed-use housing development near the eastern edge of Orléans was easily approved by city council Wednesday July 17. The proposed Cardinal Creek Village project, planned by Tamarack Homes, will be built in several phases over the next 15 to 20 years and will eventually include an estimated 3,000 residential units and two commercial centres on a parcel of rural land near the Ottawa River, just east of Trim Road.
Tamarack has agreed to work with the city on a design guideline process in order to ease the concerns of critics who oppose a large commercial area proposed for the north end of the project near Highway 174. Company representatives promise a village-style commercial centre instead of a sprawling complex of big-box stores, but residents in the area want reassurances.
